Peace at last!

I have been so tired of the constant sound of machines that more and more fill the air. Cars, trucks, motorbikes, aeroplanes, lawn mowers etc. More and more the world is filled with the sound of all these things. They have a rythm faster than the human heart and I think that one's heart tries to match the beat.

Here most of my workers come to work paddling in a dug out canoe. Children go to school in their dug out canoes. Shopping is done by canoe for the most part.

For most of the time here there are no 'man made' noises. A few boats have motors and make a lot of noise for a few minutes while they are passing. Probably an average of about 20 boats with motors can be heard in a day. A few airoplanes go overhead. Usually one goes over at about 6pm that can be heard. Occasionally when there are big storms on the Pacific coast quite a few planes go overhead, but that is a rare occasion.

Sometimes a chain saw can be heard and occasionally the neighbours play some music, but these are not common occurances.

The noises are the splash of fish jumping and the splash of kingfishers and other birds catching the fish. Birds singing in the morning and evening. Parrots in their hundreds passing overhead or eating. They are usually very noisy, but when they are stealing my fruit they are very quiet. They leave a parrot on watch and that is the sign to go see which fruit they are stealing!

Monkeys are very noisy when they are close.

Sometimes the sound of fruit dropping from the trees is noisy! And beware of coconuts falling. It might be one of the biggest dangers if you are underneath the tree!
