jungle behind coconuts and Pifa

I have left about a quarter of my land in jungle. I would have left more but the Indians had cleared the land, mostly to grow pineapples I believe.

Behind the coconut palms and Pifa palms you can see the Mayo trees. From here it looks as if the whole area is Mayo, but when you go inside it's very hard to see which trees are which. Looking up into the upper storey of the jungle isn't easy.

Mayo trees are softwood lumber. Very pretty, but it twists and splits a lot while it is drying and apparantly will rot in a year if it gets wet. These are about 80 foot high. They are covered in a very bright yellow flower twice a year, and then about 5 months later hundreds of birds are eating the seed pods. The parrots know that humans don't mind them eating Mayo seed pods. They are very noisy when they are eating them. If they are stealing other fruit that people have planted then they are quite silent (and difficult to see, except that they leave a sentry on a high lookout point!)

Inside the jungle trees grow very close together

epicyte

Lots of epicytes grow on the trees. They don't harm their hosts on the whole. They just make their home there.

vine

And lots of different types of vine.
