Most of the workers here are of Indian origin. They all come to work with their own machete. They have probably been using a machete since they were 4 or 5 years old and they probably don't own much else - just their cayuko and their clothes. They can do lots of things with their machetes! Here they are cutting grass in a swampy area.
Of course they need to eat in the middle of the day. One of their children or grandchildren or brothers or sisters bring them lunch at midday, in a kayak of course!
Lunch being delivered
And then he goes back home
he's figured out that I am taking his photo!
They are incredibly strong when it comes to carrying things. This membrio is full of sap and very heavy! Napolean is taking it to make a cross support in my house over the carribean.
But no problem.
